Benicia Tournament, August 9th - 10th

Saturday, August 9th

Alameda Blaze 6 vs. Benicia Outlaws 3

The Alameda Blaze Black defeated the host Benicia Outlaws in their opening game of the tournament on strong pitching and timely hitting. Carrie Lee pitched a complete game three hitter. All three of Benicia’s runs were unearned. Mia Musso and Kelsey Higbie each had a hit and an RBI, and Kera Anderson had two RBIs in a four run fourth inning to lead the offense. Musso also scored two runs. Jessica Ravetti also had two hits and scored a run.

Alameda Blaze 6 vs. Willits Hot Shots 0

Natalie Laber and Carrie Lee each threw three hitless innings in the combined no-hitter against the Hot Shots. The Hot Shots’ only base runners came from two walks. Kelsey Higbie had two hits, two RBIs; Bayana Davis had two hits, an RBI; and Jessica Ravetti had two more hits to lead the offense. Natalie Laber also had a double in the four run second inning that broke the game open for the Blaze.

Alameda Blaze 3 vs. Santa Rosa Victory 1

The Blaze only had four hits but scored all of  their runs using “small ball” to clinch the first place seed for single elimination Sunday. Kera Anderson was on base three times with two hits and a walk and also scored two runs. Mia Musso had a sacrifice fly to score Bayana Davis in the fourth inning to give the Blaze a two-run lead. Natalie Laber pitched a complete game two hitter and had a double.

Sunday, August 10th

Alameda Blaze 1 vs. Willits Hot Shots 0

Carrie Lee pitched complete game four hit  shutout in which she only threw 51 pitches to help defeat the Hots Shots. The Blaze only had five hits but scored their only run on a walk to Mia Musso w/ the bases loaded. A key defensive play behind Lee by Emma Raglin cut off a line drive in the gap to keep a Hot Shots runner from getting a double and thwart any chance for a Hot Shot run.

Natalie Laber complete game shutout enabled the Blaze to defeat the host team for the championship. Mia Musso, for the second game in the row, had the only RBI for the Blaze. It came after Annie Smith led off with a hit. Emma Raglin pinch ran, promptly stole second. and went to third on Kera Anderson perfect sacrifice bunt, and scored on Musso’s RBI. Musso also started a big double play in the second inning by tagging out a runner and throwing to first to get the hitter.
