Carmel Valley Tournament, July 4 - 6
Friday, July 4th
Alameda Blaze 6 vs. Gonzales Rampage 4
The Alameda Blaze Black 14U tournament team’s first game in Carmel ended w/ July 4th fireworks as they scored five runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the victory. The Rampage jumped out to a four to nothing lead in the first two innings. The Blaze seventh inning comeback was led by Carrie Lee’s two run double and RBI singles by Natalie Laber, Keilani Finley Jensen, Jessica Ravetti, and Gianna Ratto. Natalie Laber pitched a complete game four hitter for the victory.
Saturday, July 5th
Alameda Blaze 4 vs. Pleasant Hill Panthers 8
The Alameda Blaze Black got down 5-0 early again, rallied to cut the deficit, but ran out of time in the 8-4 loss. Michelle Popelka had a double, two singles, and an RBI. Anastasia Scheichl and Kelsey Higbie each had a hit and an RBI. Annie Smith got on base twice w/ a hit, and by an error. Keilani Finley Jensen had a triple and Jessica Ravetti had a double for the potent Blaze offense.
Alameda Blaze 8 vs. Pacific Grove Riptide
The Blaze Black finally got in front early, built an 8-1 lead and held on for an 8-5 victory over the eventual Carmel tournament champions. Michelle Popelka again led strong Blaze offense with three hits, and two RBIs. Jessica Ravetti went 3-3 with a double and two singles and an RBI. Anastasia Scheichl had two RBIs. Kelsey Higbie had two hits and an RBI. Natalie Laber pitched the seven inning complete game victory.
Sunday, July 6th
Alameda Blaze 0 vs. Carmel Valley All-Stars 6
The Blaze got behind early for the third time in four games and there was no magic left in the bats as they fell on single elimination Sunday to the Carmel Valley All-stars. The Blaze had runners on base every inning but couldn’t capitalize. Bayana Davis led the offense by getting on base twice via a hit and an error. Michelle Popelka got on twice with a hit and a walk. The Blaze finished the tournament with a 2-2 record.
