Napa Valley Tournament, June 21st - 22nd

 

Saturday, June 21st

Alameda Blaze Black 0 vs.Pleasant Hill Panthers 7
The Alameda Blaze Black 14U tournament team were shut out by a very strong Pleasant Hill Panthers team in their opening game of the Napa Valley Girls Softball Tournament. The Blaze highlights included a running catch by Anastasia Scheichl in foul territory and strong infield play by Gianna Ratto. Anastasia also had one of the four Blaze hits. Keilani Finley Jensen had a hit and was the only Blaze runner to get as far as third base.
 
Alameda Blaze Black 5 vs. Benicia Outlaws 4
The Alameda Blaze Black rebounded from an opening loss to get a 5-4 win. Anastasia Scheichl knocked in Keilani Finley Jensen with the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Natalie Laber pitched a complete game five hitter giving up no earned runs. She also had a big hit in the Blaze’s four-run fourth. The Blaze scored all five runs with two outs including four in the fourth inning and the winning run in the fifth.
 
Alameda Blaze Black 4 vs. San Anselmo Storm 4
The Blaze Black held on as the Storm had a runner on third when the Blaze got the last out in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the tie. Carrie Lee pitched a complete game seven-hitter and had a RBI. Michelle Popelka had two hits. Kera Anderson and Patrice Trowbridge had big hits in the top of the seventh. The Blaze finished pool play with one win, one loss, and one tie. That gave them the second seed in Sunday’s bracket play and a bye.

Sunday, June 22nd

Alameda Blaze Black 10 vs. Los Gatos/Saratoga 0
The Blaze Black had eleven hits and Natalie Laber pitched a three hit shutout to get the Blaze Black to the Napa Valley Girls Softball Tournament semi-finals in their first tournament of the summer. Annie Smith had two hits including a double and two RBIs. Gianna Ratto had a home run to deep left field. Kera Anderson had two hits and scored three runs and had an RBI. Keilani Finley Jensen had two hits
 
Alameda Blaze Black 0 vs.Petaluma Steel Breeze 11
The Alameda Blaze Black were shut out in the semi-finals of the Napa Girls Fastpitch Softball Tournament. The Blaze played well in the two-day tournament. Three of the four teams in the Blaze’s Saturday pool play bracket were in the semi-finals. The Steel Breeze hitting and pitching were just too much for the Blaze Black. Michelle Popelka had the only hit for the Blaze. The Blaze finished the tournament with two wins, two losses, and one tie.
