Pleasanton Summer Classic Tournament, July 12 - 13

Saturday, July 12th

Game 1 vs. San Carlos Force (W 4-3)

The Alameda Blaze Black started the Pleasanton tournament win a victory over the San Carlos Force. Kera Anderson had three hits, two stolen bases, three RBIs and threw a runner out at second trying to stretch a single to a double. Carrie Lee and Michelle Popelka also had two hits. Natalie Laber pitched her fifth complete game victory of the season. The Blaze played errorless defense behind Laber to seal the victory.

Game 2 vs. Calaveras Sliders (L 4-5)

The Alameda Blaze Black got down came close but could only score one run in the last inning to fall short against the Sliders, one of the two teams in the Blaze’s bracket that made the tournament final. The Blaze offense was led by Annie Smith who got on base all three times by a hit, a walk, and an error. Kelsey Higbie also had two hits. The Blaze defense played their second game in a row without an error.

Game 3 vs. Belmont Blast (L 7-3)

The Blaze opened with a 3-0 but couldn’t hold on as the Flash scored four runs in the fourth inning to break open a tie game. The Flash was the other team in the Blaze’s bracket that made the tournament final. Jessica Ravetti got a base twice with a hit and a walk and had an RBI. Anastasia Scheichl had a hit and an RBI. Natalie Laber pitched three innings of three-hit ball to keep the Blaze in the game.

Sunday, July 13th

Game 4 vs. Pleasanton Phantom (W 8-7)

The Blaze got seven runs in the first inning to jump out to a big leave. The Phantoms tied the game in the top of the fifth with six consecutive hits. Anastasia Scheichl made two outstanding plays at third base throwing a runner out at home and forcing runner at third to preserve the tie. Mia Musso’s ground ball scored Anastasia Scheichl with winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning to move into the quarterfinals.

Game 5 vs. Valley Magic (L 5-3)

The Blaze took the number one seed Valley Magic to the last out as the Magic barely escaped with the victory. The Blaze, down 5-1 in the last inning, came back with two runs in the fifth, and had runners on second and third, when Annie Smith dropped a short fly to right that the right fielder barely caught on the run at her feet. Mia Musso led the offense with two hits. Jessica Ravetti had a hit and an RBI.
