South Lake Tahoe Tournament, July 26 - 27

Saturday, July 26th

Game 1 vs. Elko Edge

Alameda Blaze Black 2, Elko Edge 9

The Alameda Blaze Black held the edge to no runs and two hits in the first three innings before the Edge exploded with all nine runs, six in the last innings, and ten hits in the last two innings. Gianna Ratto had a hit, scored a run, and had two stolen bases. Kelsey Higbie had a triple. Jessica Ravetti and Keilani Finley-Jensen each had a hit. Kera Anderson had a walk, as stolen base and a run scored.

Game 2 vs. Cabrillo Crushers

Alameda Blaze Black 9, Cabrillo Crushers 3

The Alameda Blaze Black rebounded from a tough loss by playing a nearly perfect game. Natalie Laber pitched a complete game four hitter giving up one earned run and striking out eight. Laber also got on base four times with three hits and an error and also helped herself with two RBIs. Kelsey Higbie had three hits and an RBI. Jessica Ravetti and Kera Anderson each had two hits. Keilani Finley-Jensen had a double, two walks, and an RBI.

Game 3 vs. Hollister Heat

Alameda Blaze Black 0, Hollister Heat 5

The eventual tournament champion Hollister Heat held the Blaze Black to two hits to defeat the Blaze Black. Two of the Heat’s runs were scored on wild pitches and two more were unearned. Natalie Laber and Carrie Lee had strong pitching performances to hold the Heat close. Jessica Ravetti hit a long double in the gap and Keilani Finley-Jensen walked in the last inning but the Blaze Black couldn’t push a run across.

Sunday, July 27th

Game 4 vs. Tahoe Fire

Alameda Blaze Black 5, Tahoe Fire 0

Carrie Lee pitched a one-hit six inning shutout, stole three bases and scored a run to help the Blaze Black advance to the quarterfinals in the tournament. Gianna Ratto had huge day with two hits, one a home run, three stolen bases, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Keilani Finley-Jensen had a hit and two RBIs. Mia Musso reach base twice on a hit and an error and had a stolen base. Jessica Ravetti had two more hits.

Game 5 vs. Hollister Heat

Alameda Blaze Black 1, Hollister Heat 5

The Blaze Black faced the eventual tournament champion for the second time but fell after Hollister broke open a tense game with two runs in the last inning. The Blaze Black had runners on in every inning but one, and two runners on in two of those innings but couldn’t capitalize. No team in the tournament, except for the Blaze Black twice, came within six runs of the Heat as they went 5-0 to win the tournament. Natalie Laber pitched a complete game and had two hits. Kelsey Higbie had the lone RBI.
