10U Alameda Blaze Debut at Bagby Classic
The Alameda Blaze 10U girls softball team opened the summer season in the Bagby Classic Sat. June 16th and Sun. June 17th in San Jose. The Blaze lost their first game of pool play to the Mountain View Nova by the score of 18-0. Chelsea Veiga had the only base hit of this game for the Blaze against the strong pitching of the Nova team.
The Blaze tied the Palo Alto Heat 5-5 in the 2nd game. Chelsea Viega and Dominique Barr each had a sacrifice hit and an RBI on a sacrifice. Katie Orbeta had a single and RBI. Kelley Desmond made a nice throw for an out at 1st base. Time was called after 3 innings.
Isabella Deatherage came out swinging in the third game against the San Jose Almedans with a triple and an RBI. Kelley Desmond had a single and an RBI, and Samantha Hugger singled as the Blaze lost 5-3. Caroline Liu struck out 9 batters in 4 innings and was named to the All Tourney team..
In single-elimination play on Sunday, the Blaze faced the Almaden again losing 13-2. Time was called after 3 innings. Dominique Shaver and Shannon Regan provided most of gthe offense, with a single and RBI each. Shaver added another single in the third. On defense, Kelley Desmond made a great catch and Chelsea Veiga made a nice throw to for an out.
The 10U Blaze next will play in the Castro Valley Tournament on June 30 and July 1.
